Wireless PRO Flash for Mirrorless Cameras

Pro photographers and serious non-pros need a TTL flash solution for the Lumix GH3. Although there are some good / ok speedlite flashes available for it and the GH2 and G5, none have the big power, fast recycle time, nor the radio-based triggering system needed for using flash outdoors…until now.

The top of the line flash brand for battery powered pro lighting is Quantum, a long time trusted American company known for outstanding reliability and service.  But, it ain’t cheap.

The Quantum Qflash Trio is a rather oversized shoe mount flash that has a built-in transceiver for connecting limitless flash units to most pro brands of cameras with full manual, auto, a sweet auto-fill flash mode, and the best TTL mode there is.  Yes, Quantum’s QTTL mode is widely considered better than Canon or Nikons – try it and see?

Hats off to Quantum for listening to the pros moving into Lumix GH3 cameras when they were told how much pros need Qflash to work both on-camera; and wirelessly off-camera with Lumix.  To say thanks (more like to finally shut us up! ha!), Quantum sent us over the very first Trio for Lumix and first CoPilot (wirless transmitter) for Lumix.  Here’s my happy-face as I show you this simple, powerful (and HSS!) solution.

Will Crockett, commercial hybrid photographer, photo technology developer, and webTV personality is focused on learning how to master hybrid imaging. The skillful blend of photo+video+audio is clearly the future of photography, but how do we shoot and shape and share and sell these hybrid "eProducts"? Dunno, but with Will Crockett as the technical genius and unstoppable force behind this transition from shooting still photos into creating pictures with depth and dimension we will surely figure it out! : ) Will is an open, honest, bright guy that shares what he learns here on this website about hybrid, eProducts, mirrorless cameras, and all the wonderful software tools that allow us to make better, smarter images for share or the sell. For years, non-pro photographers and pros alike have seen Will's videos, gone to his fun live events, and learned how to be a smarter photographer. Will,

Is it safe to assume this is just as compatible with Olympus as it will be with Lumix?

    Good morning Will!

This is indeed good news! One of the reasons I had to switch to Canon from Olympus in 2010 was to fully utilize the capabilities of our Quantum Flash system (for all the reasons you have always expounded upon!). I have been seriously looking at replacing our Canon 1Ds MkIII’s & 5D MkII’s with lighter kit (heck, we aren’t getting any younger, and the m43 pack much easier on motorcycle :-)

Thanks for leading the charge on this one!

    Safe travels,

    Stan

Ps. Are you doing two wheels much these days with the warmer weather?

HI Will: I thought the(spec sheet) showed the gh-3 sync speed was 1/160th!??

As a big proponent of daylight speed lighting this(syncing at 1/500 is very significant) to me.
Is this some electronic shutter magic I am unaware of?
How did you shoot flash at 1/500th???????????????
