Improve Your Autofocus (AF) for Video

As I move towards hybrid photography, one of the features that I am seeing is that autofocus (AF) now works with video…and how am I going to take advantage of this much needed improvement in my photography?

If you are a wedding or an event photographer, you are really going to use need this AF tracking feature. But on a DSLR, it really doesn’t work all that well with the exception of the upper end Sony cameras. Sony’s AF does work very, very well. They have seem to get it right.

So now as you move towards hybrid photography and AF is something that you have to have, which most of us do, then you need to take a look at the many mirrorless cameras that do AF much, much better than most DSLRs.

With a the combination of a mirrorless camera, the best lens that you can afford, and face detect mode, you will get that creative ability that you may be missing with your DSLR.

You will see that your confidence levels will go way up shooting video when you have great AF…opening the doors for you as a photographer.

Love the honest tell it how it is approach. I’m also a big fan of using the face detect in video and stills. Of course I am doing a lot of portrait work, so that does make sense, but on my G5 I have set up the Fn2 button to be the focus area tool. I hit it and now I’m in single focus mode. Best of both worlds I think :)
